Italy is one of the largest smartphone market in Western Europe. The country only trails behing Germany, UK and France in terms of total number of smartphone users in the country. At present there are nearly 33 million smartphone users in the country, which back in 2016 were close to 31 million. The 6.4% increase in number of smartphone users in the country says a lot about the potential of country for global smartphone manufacturers. The country also has a high smartphone penetration rate, reaching over about 50% of the total population.

As far as the market share for smartphone manufacturers is concerned, Samsung leads the way in Italy too. Just as in many other Asian, Middle Eastern and American smartphone markets, Samsung continues to occupy the top spot in terms of number of users using its devices. Out of the two smartphone manufacturers that had more than 10% of market share in smartphone industry of the country, Samsung sits of top.

As per the market statistics, every fifth smartphone user in country use Samsung smartphone devices, which place the Korean giant comfortably at the top spot. The American Tech giant APPLE is the only other international brand to claim more than 10% of market shares in the country. Jointly these two brands share over 50% of total smartphone share in Italian industry.

Nokia and Huawei are the other international brands with some significant shares in market. Nokia currently have nearly 9% of smartphone market shares in Italy, while Huawei is closing the gap fast with 8% market share. Huawei smartphones are fast gaining acceptance among Italian smartphone users and the latest launch of Huawei Mate 10 is likely to reposition the company as the third largest brand in terms of number of devices sold in Italy. iPhone X is the other device that has seen surge in its demand, however, it is less likely to overtake the top spot from Samsung anytime soon, despite the current demand surge.
