Xiaomi seems quite confident of its latest Mi Pad 5 and has extensively shared specification comparison for its latest pad vs. Apple’s 2021 version during the launching event. And honestly, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro is definitely the game changer here with top-of-the-line specifications, which simply blows the air out of Apple’s devices.

Xiaomi also unveiled its ‘MIUI for PAD’ during the launch event, which is its smartphone fork of Android, designed exclusively for tablets. Again, the MIUI from Xiaomi closely rivals Apple’s iPadOS, which opens up various valuable features.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 – Price and Release Date

Xiaomi recently launched the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 at an event in China; however, the global availability of the same is still not confirmed. However, we can take an idea of the device pricing by assessing its price for the Chinese market.

To start off, Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 is a startlingly affordable device, at least for what it costs in China. The “Standard” version of Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 starts at merely CNY 1,999 (128 GB and 6GB), which is just around USD 310. At the same time, the high-end version with 256GB internal storage starts at only CNY 2,299 or USD 350.

As for the Pro model (the real show stopper), the prices do go up but only slightly, making it an even more lucrative deal for users. The 6GB and 128 GB Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro model costs only CNY 2,499 or USD 390, whereas the 6GB and 256GB Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro model costs only 2,799 or USD 430. The top-of-the-line model with 5G compatibility, 8GB RAM, and 256GB internal storage costs only CNY 3,499 or USD 540.

Before you start dreaming of such lowly priced high-end slates, remember that the Chinese versions often cost significantly lower compared to pricing in other regions and that the final price may be substantially steep for other parts of the world. Still, looking at the Chinese prices, we can confidently say that the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro will cost significantly lower than Apple’s iPad Pro.

Oh, for users in the USA, there’s bad news. Xiaomi products don’t go for sale in the USA, so you might want to look at some other options.

Design and display

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro tablets come with a similar design, including 11 inches screens, 2560 x 1600 resolution, LCD technology, HDR10 support, and a 120Hz refresh rate. For a rather intriguing appearance, the selfie cameras are housed in the bezel.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 appearance resembles much like the Xiaomi Mi 11; only much stretched out. Overall, the design is pretty standard – Slate looking, which we all have seen over the years. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 is available in three colors Green, Black, and White, whereas the Pro model is only available in White and Black colors.

Performance, specs, and cameras

While Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro may not be the most powerful Android devices, these are still pretty close on the list.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 is powered by Snapdragon 860 chipset, whereas the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 870 chipset. While both of these chipsets are powerful enough to offer a seamless user experience, these can’t match the performance power offered by Snapdragon 888 chipset.

Xiaomi uses the MIUI for Pad for its latest tablets, which puts a greater focus on multi-tasking mode and easy split-screening. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 works with a stylus (which must be bought separately) and keyboard folio.

In terms of camera, Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 comes with an 8MP front camera and a 13 MP rear camera. At the same time, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro comes with an 8MP front camera and dual rear cameras, including the 13MP main camera coupled with a 5MP depth sensor. On the 5G version, the main camera is 50MP.

Battery life

Interestingly, the standard model seems better when it comes to battery, even though not by much.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 comes with an 8,720 mAh battery, whereas the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro carries a battery of 8,600 mAh (pretty weird).

However, the Pro model boosts 67W wired fast-charging capability, which isn’t found for the standard model, which limits at 33W.
